Baroque gold towns & a garden museum Best season (general guide): Apr–Sep

Minas Gerais im Südosten Brasiliens wurde im 18. Jahrhundert durch Gold reich, und seine Städte sind voller Barockkirchen. Diese Route verbringt drei Nächte in Belo Horizonte und drei in Ouro Preto. Von Madrid fliegst du über São Paulo, Rio oder Lissabon.

Belo Horizonte ist die Hauptstadt des Bundesstaats. Ihr Mercado Central ist voller Käse, Cachaça und Snacks wie Pão de queijo, Käsebrötchen. Das von Oscar Niemeyer rund um einen See gestaltete Ensemble der Moderne von Pampulha ist UNESCO-Welterbe.

Inhotim außerhalb der Stadt ist ein riesiges Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst in einem botanischen Garten, mit Pavillons und Werken im Freien auf dem ganzen Gelände. Dafür brauchst du einen ganzen Tag.

Ouro Preto, UNESCO-Welterbe, ist eine hügelige Stadt mit Kopfsteinpflaster und Kirchen, die mit dem Reichtum des Goldrauschs erbaut wurden. Der Bildhauer Aleijadinho schuf viele ihrer Fassaden und Altäre, darunter die Kirche São Francisco de Assis.

Mariana, eine kurze Fahrt entfernt, ist eine weitere Kolonialstadt mit schönen Kirchen und Plätzen.

April bis September ist Trockenzeit und die beste Reisezeit.

In Ouro Preto haben viele Kirchen kurze Öffnungszeiten, prüf sie also und plane deinen Rundgang danach. Belo Horizonte hat eine lebhafte Kneipenkultur, und die Botecos sind ein guter Ort für lokale Snacks. Plane für Inhotim einen ganzen Tag ein und starte früh.

Minas Gerais ist auch für seinen Käse und lange geschmorte Gerichte bekannt, probier also überall die lokale Küche.

Gut zu wissen: Busse verbinden Belo Horizonte mit Ouro Preto. Die Straßen dort sind sehr steil, trag also gute Schuhe. Prüf vorher die Öffnungstage von Inhotim.

Die Abende in Ouro Preto sind in der Höhe kühl, nimm also eine leichte Jacke fürs Abendessen und den Rückweg die Hügel hinauf mit.
