Dubai to Egypt: Cairo, Luxor and Aswan along the Nile

This route follows the Nile from Cairo south to Aswan, with a flight to Luxor in the middle. It spends eight nights in Egypt. From Dubai it's a short flight to Cairo.

Cairo's three nights cover the pyramids and the Sphinx at Giza, Islamic Cairo's mosques and gates, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Khan el-Khalili, the old bazaar, is busiest in the evening.

A domestic flight takes you to Luxor, the site of ancient Thebes. Luxor Temple is lit at night, and the Karnak complex needs at least a morning. On the west bank, the Valley of the Kings holds the tombs of the New Kingdom pharaohs, and Hatshepsut's temple stands against the cliffs. From Luxor, continue south to Aswan by road or rail, where feluccas sail between the islands. Philae temple is reached by boat, and a long day trip goes to Abu Simbel.

October to April is the comfortable season; summer in Aswan is very hot. UNESCO lists Memphis and its necropolis, ancient Thebes, Historic Cairo and the Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae.

Safety note: Canada advises a high degree of caution in Egypt (regional tensions, terrorism) and avoiding all travel to northern Sinai and the Western Desert west of the Giza–Luxor–Aswan–Abu Simbel road; this route's stops (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan) are outside those zones (updated 26 May 2026). The US rates Egypt Level 2 (issued 15 Jul 2025).

Pacing: start the Giza and Karnak visits early, before the heat and the tour buses. Keep small change for tips and toilets, and agree prices for taxis and feluccas before you set off. A licensed guide makes the tombs and temples far easier to understand.
