Granite beaches Best season (general guide): Apr–May, Oct–Nov

The Seychelles are known for granite boulders on white beaches, and the three main islands are linked by ferry. This plan spends three nights on Mahé, three on Praslin and two on La Digue. From Tel Aviv you'll connect through a Gulf hub or Addis Ababa.

Mahé is the largest island. Victoria's market is busy in the morning, and the botanical garden is nearby. The Morne Seychellois hike climbs through the forest to views over the coast. Creole fish or octopus curry with rice makes a simple lunch.

Take the ferry to Praslin. Anse Lazio is one of the island's best beaches, and the Vallée de Mai is a forest of coco de mer palms, whose nuts are the largest seeds in the plant kingdom. UNESCO lists the reserve.

La Digue, a short ferry ride away, is best explored by bicycle. Anse Source d'Argent, on the L'Union Estate, is famous for its granite rocks and shallow water. The estate also has an old vanilla plantation.

April to May and October to November are calm periods between the monsoons, when the sea is clearest.

Pacing: ferries between Mahé, Praslin and La Digue run several times a day, but book ahead in busy periods. On La Digue, hire a bicycle as soon as you arrive. Sea conditions vary by beach and season, so check locally before swimming, as some beaches have strong currents.

Bring reef-safe sun protection, a hat and plenty of water, as the sun is strong near the equator. Respect the wildlife, including the giant tortoises, and don't feed them.

Each island has its own character: Mahé is the busiest, Praslin is greener and quieter, and La Digue moves at the pace of a bicycle.
