Taveuni, Fiji's third-largest island, is called the Garden Island for its rainforest. This route spends six nights on Taveuni. From Los Angeles there are flights to Nadi, with a domestic connection.

Bouma National Heritage Park protects forest and waterfalls.

Taveuni has few roads and no big resorts, so it feels like an escape from busier islands. Small lodges and dive resorts sit along the west coast. The island's waterfalls are reached on short walks, and some have pools for swimming. Rainbow Reef and the Great White Wall are dive sites known for their corals, and snorkelling trips also visit the reef. The island has many birds, and birdwatchers come for the orange dove. Lake Tagimaucia, high in the mountains, is known for a red and white flower that grows nowhere else. Villages ask visitors to dress modestly, cover shoulders and remove hats. When visiting a village, bring a gift of kava root for the chief, a custom called sevusevu. Fijian food includes kokoda, raw fish in coconut milk. Flights to the island are small, so luggage limits are strict. Bring cash, as cards are not widely accepted. Plan for rain in the hills, even in the drier months.

Canada advises normal precautions in Fiji (advisory updated 26 May 2026), and the US rates it Level 1 (issued 2 Dec 2024).

Plan a slow last day on the island, with a final swim and an early night before the flight, and keep the rest of the plan relaxed and unhurried.
