Seoul to County Cork: Cork, Kinsale and Cobh
Seoul → Cork → Kinsale → Cobh
Food markets, harbour towns & the Wild Atlantic Way Best season (general guide): May–Sep
County Cork, in the south of Ireland, is known for its food, its harbours and its easy-going pace. This route spends six nights between Cork, Kinsale and Cobh. From Seoul you'll connect through London, Amsterdam or another hub to Cork.
How to pace it: Spend days one to three in Cork: day one, the English Market; day two, Shandon Bells and the city; day three, Blarney Castle. Then spend days four and five in Kinsale: day four, bus to Kinsale, then the harbour; day five, Charles Fort walk. Then spend day six in Cobh: bus to Cork, train to Cobh, then Spike Island.
Cork city sits on islands in the River Lee. The English Market, a covered food market, has been trading for centuries, and stalls sell local cheese, fish and baked goods.
Visitors can ring the Shandon Bells at St Anne's Church, and Blarney Castle, outside the city, is home to the famous Blarney Stone.
Kinsale is a harbour town of coloured houses and narrow streets, known for its restaurants. Charles Fort, a star-shaped fort, guards the harbour mouth and can be reached on a waterside walk.
Cobh, on an island in Cork Harbour, was the last port of call of the Titanic and the departure point for many emigrants. Ferries reach Spike Island, a former fortress and prison.
Kinsale is also where the Wild Atlantic Way, a long coastal touring route, begins.
May to September is the mildest season, but showers can come at any time.
Cork is small and walkable, and the English Market is best visited in the morning, when stalls are fully stocked. In Kinsale, book dinner ahead at weekends, as the restaurants are popular with day visitors from the city. The walk to Charles Fort is easy and passes small beaches and old houses. Cobh can be done in a day, but an overnight stay lets you see the harbour after the ferries have left. Rain often clears quickly here, so keep plans flexible and a coat close.
Good to know: Buses and trains link the towns, so a car isn't needed. Pubs often have live traditional music in the evening.
