Tashkent to the Split coast: Trogir and Hvar
Tashkent → Trogir → Hvar
An island old town & a lavender island Best season (general guide): May–Jun, Sep
The coast around Split is busy, but the old town of Trogir and the island of Hvar each reward a slower stay. This route spends three nights in Trogir and three on Hvar. From Tashkent you'll connect through a hub to Split, whose airport is right next to Trogir. Trogir's historic centre sits on a small island between the mainland and the island of Čiovo, about 27 kilometres west of Split. It has been on the UNESCO list since 1997.
How to pace it: Spend days one to three in Trogir: day one, the old town; day two, cathedral and the waterfront; day three, day in Split. Then spend days four to six on Hvar: day four, ferry from Split to Hvar; day five, Hvar town and the fortress; day six, Stari Grad Plain.
Trogir's cathedral is known for the carved portal by the master Radovan, from the thirteenth century. Hvar is about 68 kilometres long, with a high limestone ridge. Unusually for the area, it has a large fertile plain and freshwater springs, and its hillsides are covered in pine, vineyards and olive groves. The Stari Grad Plain, on the north side of the island, is a farming landscape laid out by Greek colonists in the fourth century BC. UNESCO lists it as one of the best-preserved ancient field systems.
In Hvar town, the Arsenal once sheltered Venetian war galleys, and its upper floor holds one of Europe's oldest public theatres. Lavender has long been grown on the island, and its oil and dried flowers are sold across Hvar. Late spring and September are good for swimming without the summer peak.
Hvar lies between the islands of Brač, Vis and Korčula, off the Dalmatian coast. Ferries and catamarans link Split with Hvar town and Stari Grad.
Safety: Canada's advice for Croatia is to take normal security precautions (updated 11 Aug 2026), and the US rates Croatia Level 1 (18 May 2026).
