Gulf skylines & desert Best season (general guide): Nov–Mar

A short flight from Tel Aviv brings you to two very different Emirates cities, connected by a single highway along the Gulf coast. Dubai is the busier and more spectacular of the two. Abu Dhabi, the capital, is calmer and centred on culture. Together they make an easy winter-sun trip with no internal flights. The itinerary spends four nights in Dubai and three nights in Abu Dhabi.

Begin in Dubai. Spend an evening by the creek in Deira, crossing on a wooden abra to the spice and gold souks, and a day around Downtown, where the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain show the modern city. Many visitors also join a desert trip from Dubai into the dunes. Then the road heads south-west to Abu Dhabi. The white marble Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is open to visitors outside prayer times. On Saadiyat Island, the Louvre Abu Dhabi sits under its latticed dome by the water, and the mangroves to the east can be explored by kayak.

The official tourism boards of both cities point to the cooler months, roughly November to March, as the most comfortable time for outdoor plans. From June to September it's extremely hot and humid, and most activities move indoors. Ramadan changes daily life, with shorter opening hours and no eating in public during the day, so check its dates for your year.

Dress codes are relaxed in malls and hotels. At the Grand Mosque, women need loose clothing covering arms to the wrists and legs to the ankles, plus a headscarf; men should wear long trousers and avoid sleeveless tops. Book your visit slot in advance. Ride-hailing apps and the Dubai Metro make getting around simple. For a quieter evening, the Al Fahidi historical district in Dubai, with its wind-tower houses, and the Corniche waterfront in Abu Dhabi are both good places to walk once the heat of the day has passed.

Safety note: Canada advises avoiding non-essential travel to the United Arab Emirates due to the volatile regional security situation (updated 10 Aug 2026). The US rates the UAE Level 3 (reconsider travel), citing missile and drone attacks from Iran in 2026 and flight disruptions (issued 29 Aug 2026). Check both, and your airline, before booking.
